Modern look for model museum

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Weeds Shame -

A new artist’s impression for the proposed Ashford model railway museum has been released after planners complained the original design was not modern enough.

If plans are successful the museum will be part of the transformation of the old Klondyke Railway Works site in Ashford’s Newtown area.

Albert Walton of the Ashford International Model Railway Excellence Centre (AIMREC) steering committee said the amendments were made for multiple reasons. He said: “There are some changes to design for various reasons. One of those is to make getting around the building easier.”

Plans to include features such as an observatory, working model railways and lec- ture halls still stand and the changes are thought to be only in terms of the design.

AIMREC recently announced Who singer Roger Daltrey has accepted the role of joint patron alongside millionaire businessman Sir William McAlpine.

The steering committee are due to meet tomorrow (Friday) for the latest round of talks.
