This festival will be our strongest so far
The diverse and talented line-up of acts booked to perform in Ashford’s town centre venue this season is the strongest yet, say organisers.
Revelation St Mary’s has been the home of art and culture in Ashford since it was established by the St Mary’s Arts Trust three years ago.
On Friday, August 29, the autumn and winter programme will launch when folk rock pioneer Steeleye Span perform. Other scheduled acts to play this year include Gruff Rhys, Martha Wainwright, Steve Tilston and rising stars Cannon Woods and Friends.
Creative director Anna Moulson, said: “Our aim at Revelation St Mary’s is to programme what you would like to see, some surprises and new introduction of artists.
“This season is no exception with artists from Wales, Canada, Australia and Ashford, from pop to folk to singer-songwriters, something for everyone to enjoy.”
Matthew Sharp, who works alongside Anna as creative director, co-ordinates the classical music performances.
Upcoming events include Four Seasons: Vivaldi & Piazzolla led by the highly acclaimed David Le Page, Schubert’s Quintet performed by the award-winning Sacconi Quartet, and Frankenstein! featuring musicians from the Chamber Domaine ensemble as well as dancers from the English National Ballet.
Mr Sharp said: “I look at the new season and I think distinctive, distinguished, diverse. The aspiration for Revelation St Mary’s is to make it a ‘go to’ venue of national note. Looking at the range, quality and innovation on offer, I think we’re making bold steps in the right direction.”
Revelations will also be collaborating with organisations such as Folk in the Barn, The Vintage Corporation and Canterbury Oast Trust, who have lined up grammy award-winning Albert Lee And Hogan’s Heroes and tribute act ABBA Chique.
The Rev Colin Preece, parish priest of St Mary’s, said: “Once again Revelation St Mary’s new programme is so exciting and will appeal to people of all tastes in music. In only our third year we are bringing professional, high quality and diverse artists to the people of Ashford.” Full line up, and ticket details at revelationstmarys.co.uk
