Bur­glar is sent to jail for 240 days

John Given will spend 240 days in prison af­ter steal­ing items worth thou­sands of pounds.

Be­tween May 30 and June 1, Given, 34, for­merly from Ash­ford, en­tered a com­mu­nity cen­tre in Can­ter­bury Road, Ash­ford, as a tres­passer and stole two lap­tops, five dig­i­tal cam­eras and coins worth £790.

Then on May 31 he en­tered a shop at Eureka Park, Ash­ford, and stole a pair of train­ers and a bag worth £65.

Fur­ther, on Au­gust 1 he failed with­out rea­son­able ex­cuse to sur­ren­der to cus­tody at the mag­is­trates’ court on two oc­ca­sions.

He ap­peared at Med­way Mag­is­trates’ Court on Mon­day, Au­gust 4, and pleaded guilty to two counts of fail­ing to sur­ren­der to po­lice/court bail and two counts of bur­glary at other than a dwelling.

Mag­is­trates sen­tenced Given to a to­tal of 240 days in prison.
