Trio’s na­tional bid ended in sec­ond game

Ash­ford Rail trio Linda Green­halgh, Chris­tine Lock and Mo Hayes made a win­ning start in the Aero Bowls Women’s Na­tional Triple Cham­pi­onships at Leamington Spa at the week­end.

The Kent County cham­pi­ons beat Devon club Cred­i­ton 16-15 in the pre­lim­i­nary round of the com­pe­ti­tion on Sun­day.

How­ever they bowed out the fol­low­ing day, los­ing 21-17 against Bur­radon BC from Northum­ber­land.

Kent clinched the Home Coun­ties League ti­tle with a 132-97 win over Buck­ing­hamshire at Ol­ney on Satur­day.

Need­ing three points to be con­firmed cham­pi­ons, Kent won on all five rinks to claim a 20 point suc­cess.

In club matches, Rail lost 107-83 against Mil­ton Regis on Satur­day. The top win­ning rink saw Lau­rence Smith, Dennis Gibbs and skip Gra­ham Wil­liams win 18-11.

Rail were 68-44 win­ners at Rye in a four-rink-mixed triples. Best win­ning rink was lead Janet Wil­liams, Terry An­drews and skip Alan Aldridge, who won 25-5.

The club meet Folke­stone in the semi-fi­nals of the Hud­son Cup to­mor­row (Fri­day).

They beat New Rom­ney in the quar­ter-fi­nals.

Ham­street won 90-52 at Ash­ford Town in a four triples friendly on Satur­day.

The win­ning rink was K.Ni­cholls, F.Trim­mer and M.Bro­gan.

Sun­day’s game at West­field was rained off.

Ham­street beat Iden 88-67 in their lat­est Mer­maid League match.
