Warning of rogue hot tar cold callers

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Cash-strapped Commuters -

Men in a white van have been driving around Ashford trying to pressure residents into paying for “hot tar surfacing”.

A warning has been issued by Trading Standards (TS) after the young men were reported to them from various parts of the borough on Monday of last week.

The pair are described as young with dark hair and they were wearing hi-visibility jackets and baseball caps and driving a Transit van.

They claimed they could offer a deal on hot tar surfacing because they needed to use up surplus material before their machine could be serviced.

The men were cold calling residents and people who reported them to TS said they were “very persistent”.

A TS spokesman said: “Remember you do not have to agree to the work being offered. Tell us if you see these or other rogues in your area.

“We want to know the person’s name or company name, descriptions, vehicle model and registration and what type of work they are offering.”
