The Blackpool Tower looms large over the Lancashire seaside resort and the Angel of the North spreads her wings over Gateshead. The towering Shard is one of the latest high-rise buildings to dominate the London skyline. Sydney is renowned for its Opera House and millions of visitors to India each year marvel at the beauty of the Taj Mahal. The eyes of the world were focused on the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this summer during the World Cup. Currently, Ashford’s most noteable ‘sculpture’ is The Bolt on the mini roundabout at the junction of Forge Lane and Elwick Road, which doesn’t exactly bring the tourists flocking in.
