Approval for new homes at garage site

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - What’s On -

Seventeen new homes will be built at a former garage in Shadoxhurst.

The application, submitted by Orbit Homes, was approved by members of Ashford Borough Council’s planning committee at their meeting last Wednesday (August 20).

Plans include the demolition of the existing garage, in Woodchurch Road, which was used to service vehicles and the sale of secondhand cars, and the erection of a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom houses with associated parking.

Ward member Cllr Aline Hicks (Con) said: “I’m reasonably in favour. The (current) site is appalling and has fallen into disrepair.

“We’ve had reports of vandals and rodents in the area. The only use for the site is residential housing.”

Despite a number of objections – including concerns over high density and suggestions that the space would be better used for commercial dwellings – the application was approved.
