Having a field day at cricket club

An open day at a vil­lage cricket club al­lowed peo­ple of all ages to have a go at the sport.

At Lit­tle Chart Cricket Club bud­ding bat­ters and field­ers, from preschool age to late sev­en­ties, played a se­ries of games us­ing dif­fer­ent balls for the var­i­ous ages and abil­i­ties, un­der the su­per­vi­sion of se­nior club mem­bers.

Spon­sored by the Eng­land and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Waitrose the event, de­signed to in­tro­duce the game to as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble, also fea­tured a bar­be­cue lunch and tra­di­tional cricket tea.

Or­gan­iser Craig Tay­lor said: “It was won­der­ful to see so many peo­ple try the game for the first time.

“We also had sev­eral peo­ple who have played in the past and are now in­spired to try again.”
