The Mersham President’s XI lifted the Rob Wilson Memorial Cup for the first time last week. Mick Smithers’ side – skippered by Nobby Southern – overcame Mersham by three runs in a highscoring final to take top honours. The annual tournament honours Mersham’s former 1st XI captain Rob Wilson, who passed away in 2012. The finalists had earlier overcome the challenge of Willesborough to progress into the last two. Mersham Cricket Club chairman Perry Calvert said: “It was a great day to honour a great man. “The cricket was played in the manner he’d have liked it – hard and fair – and brought together plenty of people who’d played with Rob.”
