Stevens scoops T20 Blast award
Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens has won the annual Natwest T20 Blast FTI MVP award for the second time. He beat Surrey’s Jason Roy by 1.5 points to repeat his 2009 success. He scored 351 runs and took 18 wickets but it was the two run-outs he effected that ultimately got Stevens over the line as Roy failed to complete any run-outs. His best match in terms of points scoring was in the tied game against Glamorgan at Cardiff where he took 3-22 before cracking 71 off 39 balls. Stevens’ consistency in the short format of the game has seen him finish in the top-10 five times in the past six campaigns. He is the leading points scorer in the history of the award and the first player through the 1000-points barrier. Glamorgan’s Jim Allenby finished third third with 548 runs and seven wickets.
