First de­feat marks the end of cup group stage

Kent’s un­beaten run in the Royal Lon­don One-Day Cup ended with a seven-wicket loss against Mid­dle­sex at the Spit­fire Ground, St Lawrence, last Wed­nes­day. The visi­tors won the Group B clash, which was both sides’ fi­nal group game, with 37 balls to spare af­ter chas­ing down Kent’s 191 all-out. The re­sult made no dif­fer­ence to qual­i­fi­ca­tion for the knock­out stages, with Kent al­ready through to the quar­ter-fi­nals while Mid­dle­sex were al­ready out of con­tention. Opener Daniel Bel­lDrum­mond top scored with 51 for Kent while Fabian Cow­drey made 44 as their side were dis­missed for un­der 200 for the first time in this year’s com­pe­ti­tion. For­mer Kent bats­man Joe Denly took the wick­ets of Alex Blake (20) and Mitch Clay­don (0) on his way to fin­ish­ing with 2-31. In re­ply, opener David Malan hit an un­beaten 76, sharing an un­beaten fourth-wicket part­ner­ship of 59 with his cap­tain, Eoin Mor­gan (31 not out). Kent pace­man Doug Bollinger ended his stint with the county by tak­ing 1-31 off 10 overs af­ter tak­ing the wicket of fel­low Aus­tralian, Test opener Chris Rogers, for 23.
