The squad now pre­pare for the Bri­tish Cham­pi­onships in Glas­gow next month. The Foun­tain SAC fished their lat­est shore com­pe­ti­tion as a rover and the win­ner was Michael Warne, of Hythe, with 5.882kg of dog­fish, whit­ing and codling, writes Alan Yates. Sec­ond was Cieron Bull, also of Hythe, with 5.592kg and third Mick Howard, of Folke­stone, with 5.084kg. Fourth was Chris Causer with 4.720kg and fifth, com­pe­ti­tion sec­re­tary Ray Smith with 4.216kg. Free­lance catch re­ports in­clude some ex­cel­lent re­turns from Hythe beach dur­ing and after the re­cent gales, with codling and bass show­ing among the whit­ing. Best of the catches re­ported came from Hythe Ranges to Cieron Bull who landed codling and school bass on black lug­worm. The round of sea­sonal shore an­gling com­pe­ti­tions is com­ing up, with Christ­mas prizes on of­fer in the many and var­i­ous an­gling club events. You can win any­thing from a turkey to a box of bis­cuits and in most of the events, the big­gest at­trac­tion is that all com­peti­tors win a prize. The only prob­lem for many an­glers is that the lo­cal clubs have all cho­sen the same day – Sun­day, De­cem­ber 7 and most events are mem­bers only. The Foun­tain SAC have their sea an­gling event (mem­bers only) fish­ing at Princes Pa­rade, Seabrook, on that day from 9am un­til 2pm. The Folke­stone SAA have their Christ­mas event on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 13, with fish­ing sched­uled from 10am un­til 3pm – again mem­bers only, although to qual­ify, you need to have fished a num­ber of events dur­ing the year. With the pier closed, the event has been switched to Hythe. FSAA also have their two- day fes­ti­val and that also has qual­i­fi­ca­tion re­stric­tions so check you are el­i­gi­ble. Fresh­wa­ter re­sults in­clude the lat­est Ice­break­ers win­ter league contest at Rad­nor Park which was won by John Wil­liams jnr, of Cheri­ton, with 30lb 8oz in­clud­ing the pool win­ning big­gest mir­ror carp of 8lb.
