Op­por­tu­nity to try wa­ter sports at park’s open day

Ad­ven­tur­ers can try out a range of wa­ter sports at a coun­try­side park open day.

There’s a chance to have a go at ca­noe­ing, pad­dle board­ing and row­ing at the Con­ning­brook Lakes open day on Satur­day, Septem­ber 12.

Other sports on of­fer at the park, which is next to the Julie Rose Sta­dium in Willes­bor­ough, in­clude wa­ter zorb­ing, archery, cy­cling and angling lessons.

Chil­dren will be kept en­ter­tained by mini kids ath­let­ics and ac­tiv­i­ties put on by the Ken­tish Stour Coun­try­side Part­ner­ship and by The Con­ser­va­tion Vol­un­teers, or they can en­joy hav­ing their faces painted.

Visi­tors can en­joy a gen­tle stroll by tak­ing a guided walk around the park with Kent Wildlife Trust – and for the health con­scious there will be free health checks and mem­ber­ship of­fers from Ash­ford Leisure Trust.

The day will also fea­ture stalls, in­clud­ing from Ash­ford farm­ers’ mar­ket and mu­si­cal en­ter­tain­ment.

Cllr Jes­samy Blan­ford, Ash­ford Bor­ough Coun­cil’s port­fo­lio holder for parks and open spa­ces, said: “The open day is a chance for ev­ery­one to try out some of the fun ac­tiv­i­ties avail­able on the day. There’s lots planned so we hope to see many peo­ple en­joy­ing the fun ac­tiv­i­ties on of­fer.

“It’s also an op­por­tu­nity for those who have not been down to Con­ning­brook Lakes yet to dis­cover the beau­ti­ful sur­round­ings for them­selves.”

The event and all ac­tiv­i­ties on of­fer are free, although age re­stric­tions ap­ply for some water­based ac­tiv­i­ties.
