Opportunity to try water sports at park’s open day
Adventurers can try out a range of water sports at a countryside park open day.
There’s a chance to have a go at canoeing, paddle boarding and rowing at the Conningbrook Lakes open day on Saturday, September 12.
Other sports on offer at the park, which is next to the Julie Rose Stadium in Willesborough, include water zorbing, archery, cycling and angling lessons.
Children will be kept entertained by mini kids athletics and activities put on by the Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership and by The Conservation Volunteers, or they can enjoy having their faces painted.
Visitors can enjoy a gentle stroll by taking a guided walk around the park with Kent Wildlife Trust – and for the health conscious there will be free health checks and membership offers from Ashford Leisure Trust.
The day will also feature stalls, including from Ashford farmers’ market and musical entertainment.
Cllr Jessamy Blanford, Ashford Borough Council’s portfolio holder for parks and open spaces, said: “The open day is a chance for everyone to try out some of the fun activities available on the day. There’s lots planned so we hope to see many people enjoying the fun activities on offer.
“It’s also an opportunity for those who have not been down to Conningbrook Lakes yet to discover the beautiful surroundings for themselves.”
The event and all activities on offer are free, although age restrictions apply for some waterbased activities.
