Fine serving for Minister
Wye Tennis Club welcomed some important figures from the sporting world on Friday.
Tracey Crouch, Minister for Sport, Jennie Price, chief executive of Sport England and Damian Green, MP for Ashford, visited the club.
Club chairman Graham Sutherland in his opening remarks said that the invitation had been issued so the guests could see a good example of a grassroots community club.
He also emphasised that Ashford, together with Folkestone and Hythe, would embrace an indoor tennis centre.
All three guests were impressed by the development of Wye, especially with the junior coaching programme.
During the visit, Oliver Hanley and Imogen Amos played Thomas Bishop and Francesca Lowe in a mixed junior match.
At the end of the evening, the Minister for Sport presented winning pennants to Wye juniors, who had won the Kent Aegon mixed under-9, girls’ under-12, girls’ under-14 and girls’ under-16 titles.
