Fundrais­ers to en­joy their tee and cake

The Great Smar­den Bake Off and golf tu­ition from a lead­ing coach are two of the latest events be­ing held in the vil­lage’s Sport­ing Septem­ber pro­gramme to raise cash to fit out the new sports pav­il­ion.

This Sun­day, the Paul Fos­ton Golf Academy in Chessenden Lane, Smar­den will open its doors be­tween 2pm and 5pm for visi­tors to take part in a range of golf­ing ac­tiv­i­ties for both be­gin­ners and ex­pe­ri­enced play­ers.

The af­ter­noon in­cludes a nine­hole putting com­pe­ti­tion (£2 for adults, £1 for chil­dren) to win a golf shirt and a near­est the pin short game of golf (£3 for adults, £2 chil­dren) to win a golf les­son with Paul Fos­ton.

Judg­ing

Paul’s wife Angie will be host­ing the Great Smar­den Bake Off that af­ter­noon.

Ev­ery­one is in­vited to bake a cake, any recipe, and take it to Ap­ple­trees by 2.15pm, with judg­ing start­ing at 2.30pm.

The best cake baker wins a din­ner for two at the Stra­mac­chio Ital­iano res­tau­rant at Elvey Farm in Pluck­ley.

Other ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude pub games this Satur­day from 7pm at the Fly­ing Horse pub while next Tues­day, Smar­den’s Short Mat Bowls Club hosts an open ses­sion to try out the game in the Char­ter Hall from 6pm to 9pm. Cost is £1, with free tea or cof­fee.
