Cancer fundraiser yields £5,000
A woman has raised at least £2,000 for Cancer Research in memory of her mother.
Vivian Hudson, of Bilsington, secured the money by having her head shaved at her local pub during its charity summer spectacular.
It was held at the village’s White Horse pub on Sunday, and early estimates show the fundraiser will eventually raised more than £5,000.
Pub landlord Gordon Russell said: “She raised £2,000 to £2,5000 through the head shave alone.
“She wanted to help because she lost her mum to cancer.”
Joan Thompson died from the illness earlier this year.
Fundraisers dressed in pink, and a total £2,750 was also raised through an auction of promises,.
One customer offered a flight on a biplane, another a ride in a 1930 Austin car, and another clay-pigeon shooting tuition.
Ottewill silversmiths of Evegate also donated a silver necklace.
