A 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of a hit and run has been released without charge.

Folkestone man Gary Langham was found in Bower Road, Mersham, with serious head injuries on Sunday, August 23, at 7am.

A young man from the village was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving just two days later, but has now been released and ruled out of police inquiry.

Two more men are still on bail after being arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident.

Det Sgt Matt Smith said a 21-year-old man from Ashford and the 22-year-old from Maidstone are still on bail pending inquiries.

He said: “I would like to clarify that there is no connection between the young man from Mersham and the two men who were arrested on suspicion of assault.”

Mr Langham, who is in his 40s, is still in a critical condition in a London hospital.

The pair arrested for assault are on police bail until Friday, October 16.

Det Sgt Smith added: “Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident, and it is very much an active inquiry.”
