A psychiatric nurse from Hertfordshire, said he was stuck in the traffic for more than three hours.

Derek Beach, 40, said: “I was on my way back home to pick my kids up after dropping something in Ashford.

“I came on at junction 10 and got stuck about 150 yards after that.

“There were some traffic wardens wandering around but we weren’t told anything about what’s going on or how long anything was going to take. I was just getting my information from KentOnline.

“People were getting out of their cars and wandering around.

“I saw one woman with a baby in her arms trying to find someone with jump leads because her car had broken down. It was mayhem.

“I hope the guy in the lorry is okay, it looked quite bad.”
