Choirs in­vited to sum­mer com­pe­ti­tion

Choirs from across the county are be­ing in­vited to sign up to take part in a com­pe­ti­tion this sum­mer.

Equa­tor Mu­sic’s Choir Fes­ti­val 2016 is seek­ing am­a­teur, school and com­mu­nity choirs in Kent and Med­way to per­form at the Nor­ton Knatch­bull School in Hythe Road, Ash­ford, on Thurs­day, June 30 and Fri­day, July 8.

Or­gan­ised by world mu­sic com- pany ShivaNova, the com­pe­ti­tion is part of the Equa­tor Fes­ti­val Mu­sic Se­ries 2016.

The choir must have a min­i­mum of 12 singers and be avail­able to per­form on the two dates.

Ap­pli­cants must sub­mit an ap­pli­ca­tion form with a list of three songs, one of which must be from an­other coun­try or cul­ture.

Each per­for­mance must not be longer than 15 min­utes.

Also, fe­male singers, women choirs or mixed groups per­form­ing com­po­si­tions by women are in­vited to take part in the Women of the World con­cert.

Equa­tor will be show­cas­ing young tal­ent this sum­mer but is look­ing for the fe­male-fo­cused line up in a range of gen­res in­clud­ing pop, world, folk, jazz or clas­si­cal.

It is free to take part and the fes­ti­val takes place on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 1 and Satur­day Oc­to­ber 22 this year.
