Officers arrest man in immigration checks
A Vietnamese man who ran when approached by immigration officers in Ashford town has been arrested.
The 28-year-old is in a detention centre following his arrest on Tuesday.
It is not known what business the man was found to be working in, but immigration enforcement officers, accompanied by police, were seen in Bank Street, North Street and the lower High Street at lunchtime.
A spokesman for the Home Office said: “We undertook compliance visits to businesses in Ashford town centre on Tuesday, February 2.
“At one of the premises visited, a man attempted to run off.
“He was arrested by police officers on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.
“The 28-year-old man is from Vietnam and remains in immigration detention.”
The spokesman added that if someone is found to have no right to remain in the UK, action to remove them will be taken. No further action is to be taken against the business where he was found.
