Of­fi­cers ar­rest man in im­mi­gra­tion checks

A Viet­namese man who ran when ap­proached by im­mi­gra­tion of­fi­cers in Ash­ford town has been ar­rested.

The 28-year-old is in a de­ten­tion cen­tre fol­low­ing his ar­rest on Tues­day.

It is not known what busi­ness the man was found to be work­ing in, but im­mi­gra­tion en­force­ment of­fi­cers, ac­com­pa­nied by po­lice, were seen in Bank Street, North Street and the lower High Street at lunchtime.

A spokesman for the Home Of­fice said: “We un­der­took com­pli­ance vis­its to busi­nesses in Ash­ford town cen­tre on Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 2.

“At one of the premises vis­ited, a man at­tempted to run off.

“He was ar­rested by po­lice of­fi­cers on sus­pi­cion of en­ter­ing the UK il­le­gally.

“The 28-year-old man is from Viet­nam and re­mains in im­mi­gra­tion de­ten­tion.”

The spokesman added that if some­one is found to have no right to re­main in the UK, ac­tion to re­move them will be taken. No fur­ther ac­tion is to be taken against the busi­ness where he was found.
