Armed po­lice ar­rest man af­ter bur­glary

A 22-year-old man has been charged with deal­ing co­caine and am­phet­a­mines af­ter a re­ported ag­gra­vated bur­glary in New­town.

Omar Foster, of no fixed ad­dress, was ar­rested shortly af­ter the in­ci­dent in Al­fred Road at 8.30pm on Sun­day.

Res­i­dents re­ported see­ing a num­ber of emer­gency ve­hi­cles in the area and po­lice con­firmed armed of­fi­cers were at the scene.

A spokesman con­firmed of­fi­cers are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a bur­glary but no ar­rests have been made for this of­fence.

No-one was in­jured, noth­ing has been re­ported miss­ing and a po­lice spokesman said in­quiries are on­go­ing.

A po­lice spokesman said: “Armed of­fi­cers were de­ployed to the scene as a pre­cau­tion and stayed in the area to pro­vide re­as­sur­ance to lo­cal res­i­dents.”

Foster was charged with pos­ses­sion of co­caine with in­tent to sup­ply and pos­ses­sion of am­phet­a­mine with in­tent to sup­ply.

He ap­peared be­fore Med­way Mag­is­trates via video link on Mon­day and was re­manded in cus­tody.
