‘Many mil­lions’ were spent on agency staff by the trust in 2014/15.

The reg­u­la­tor, Mon­i­tor, placed the trust in spe­cial mea­sures fol­low­ing a damn­ing in­spec­tion in March 2014.

Matthew Ker­shaw joins the trust on £215,000 a year. His pre­de­ces­sor’s salary was £170,000.

The trust over­sees five hospi­tals – The Kent and Can­ter­bury, Wil­liam Har­vey, QEQM in Mar­gate, Buck­land in Dover and Folke­stone’s Royal Vic­to­ria.

More than 750,000 peo­ple across Can­ter­bury, Thanet, Dover, Shep­way and Ash­ford are served by the trust.

The trust has more than 1,000 beds, in­clud­ing 27 crit­i­cal care beds and 67 chil­dren’s beds.

200,000 emer­gency at­ten­dances are dealt with by the trust ev­ery year.
