This year is the 400th an­niver­sary of Wil­liam Shake­speare’s death and to com­mem­o­rate this land­mark there are nu­mer­ous events be­ing staged across the county.

Shake­speare died on April 23 in 1616 in Strat­ford-upon-Avon, which was also his birth­place.

He pro­duced most of his known work be­tween 1589 and 1613, writ­ing 38 plays, 154 son­nets, two long nar­ra­tive po­ems, and a few other verses.

His plays have been trans­lated into ev­ery ma­jor lan­guage and are per­formed more of­ten than those of any other play­wright.
