Having a ball in raising £6,000 for charities
A fantastic £6,000 has been raised for two charities following a grand ball in Ashford.
The party was attended by 280 people and held at the Ashford International Hotel, in Simone Weil Avenue, last Friday.
It included dinner, a disco, live music, a raffle, tombola, and magic and was organised by Martin Kemp in honour of his mum Jean, who was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time last year, and who turned 60 in January.
Speaking after the event, Mr Kemp, a dad-of-two, said: “Well, what an incredible evening.
“All the blood sweat and tears were worth it! I am very pleased and overwhelmed with the response from everyone on the night - it’s been amazing.
“All the guests were all suitably dressed in the black tie attire, and they all looked very glamorous indeed.”
Proceeds from the evening are to be split between the Pilgrims Hospice, where Mrs Kemp is currently being cared for, and Cancer Research UK.
Mr Kemp, 34, from South Ashford, had hoped his mum would attend the ball and planned a few surprises for her on the night, including all the guests singing happy birthday to her.
However sadly due to her declining health she was unable to go.
A video taken on the night though by Ben Bell from Platinum Weddings & Events managed to capture all the guests singing to Mrs Kemp, who is also mum to Jacqueline and Katie, and a grandmother-of-four.
Mr Kemp said: “It was very emotional but lovely to see her face when I showed her a room full of 280 people all singing Happy Birthday to her, followed by a demonstration of Latin and ballroom dancing by the lovely Sophie Burgum and Matthew Langford who belong to Starlite Dance group based in Ditton.”
