Baker takes on Cas­tle chal­lenge

Richard Baker fin­ished 52nd out of a field of 350 at the Hadleigh Legacy 10k in Es­sex on Sun­day.

The Ash­ford & District Road Run­ning Club mem­ber, fol­lowed up his strong run in the Can­ter­bury 10 the pre­vi­ous week, cross­ing the line in 51.49.

The race was a test of stamina and en­durance on a hilly and muddy off-road course around the grounds of Hadleigh Cas­tle, venue for the moun­tain bike event at the Lon­don 2012 Olympics.

The club was again well rep­re­sented in the lat­est Ash­ford parkrun on Satur­day. Chris Boyce was first man home, fourth in 18.45, with Paul Moses next in 18.56.

Scott Lynch was sev­enth (19.02), Pat But­ler 11th (20.15), Richard Baker 19th in 22.10 with An­drew Smith home in 29.57.

Chris­tine Cos­tiff was third lady home in 21.36, one place ahead of Gill Prag­nell (21.48). Danyel Gilles and Rhian Shrimp­ton both pro­duced per­sonal bests to fin­ish sixth (22.50) and eighth (23.07) re­spec­tively. Lisa Bracken was 18th in 27.20, Anne Healy also raced to a PB, 21st lady home in 28.07).
