Nicholls storms to victory
Max Nicholls raced to victory in the South of England CrossCountry Championships under-20 race at Parliament Hill Fields in north London on Saturday.
The 19-year-old dental student from Newchurch on Romney Marsh led his club Tonbridge AC to team silver, finishing nearly 30 seconds ahead of highly-rated rival and pre-race favourite Mahamed Mahamed from Southampton.
The race over 8k took the 100-runner field up steep banks, through woodland with ankle-deep mud in places and alongside Kenwood House.
Nicholls led from the gun and built up a comfortable lead by the end.
He races in the University Championships in Gloucester this weekend and the English National event at the end of the month. Younger brother Euan, at 17, one of the youngest in the race, was delighted to finish 17th in 28.43.
