British Legion chairman shocked by actions
Popiraj Rai is the new chairman of the Ashford Branch of the Royal British Legion.
He said: “We are really shocked and saddened by what he has done in the name of our charity.
“This affects the trust of the public that we have lost, which is sad because lots of volunteers work really hard and give up so much time to help others.
“Then it is also hard for those who are veterans and their families suffering from injuries and their wounds, who have been affected by his crime.”
The crime took place before Mr Rai took over as chairman, but he said the new committee has discussed the issue.
He said: “We have talked about how we can prevent this from happening again. We are aware of it and will try our best not to have these types of incidents in our branch. We hope and pray that it will not take place again.”
