60mph is too fast
I wanted to email to give my view on reducing rural road speed limits.
Our local parish council has had some involvement in campaigning to reduce the speed limit along the A28 through High Halden to 40mph, and although this is working well, it is a fairly straight road through the village up to Tenterden, however, it beggars belief that most of the country lanes leading of the A28 have a speed limit of 60mph. My family and I live on a very narrow country lane, which is treacherous during the winter months – not only is it wet and icy, but it has lots of sharp bends and blind corners and there have been a number of cars which have ended up in the ditches over the years.
We regularly walk our dog around the lanes with our three-year-old son (who rides along on his trike) and at times we have all come very close to being hit by cars tearing down the lane at high speed.
At certain times of the year there are also a lot of tractors around and as our lane is pretty much a single track, anyone speeding around a blind corner would be
