Drivers defiant against residents

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Points Of View -

I cannot see what Beverley Davies’ problem is (These lorries are causing a danger, KE, February 4) regarding the HGV that parked up on Godinton Park.

Over the past year or more our quality of life has plummeted on our newish housing estate, with the same type of danger created by the week-long parking of foreign cargo vans that only vacate the estate at weekends.

The vans are parked within the law, but obscure motorists’ vision of a concealed junction when entering the estate and a bend in the opposite direction on exit.

This is coupled with the fact that they obstruct the use of residents’ driveways, but who cares?

Being an old Ashfordian who tries to educate the aliens who arrive in our area about one-way street systems and illegal footpath parking, I then get accosted in an out of town supermarket by an unknown female who does not know the correct name of the road she’s talking about, telling me to back off.

With that sort of attitude what chance do the residents older than myself have? But who cares? I do, because the newcomers to our historic market town carry out deliberate acts of defiance for which longstanding residents will pay the ultimate price with their life.
