MP makes case for EU yes vote
MP Damian Green paid a visit to an Ashford-based international business to discuss the benefits of staying in the European Union.
As part of the Britain Stronger In Europe campaign, Mr Green met Emir Hand Tools employees at their Kingsnorth Industrial Estate site. The company, AKA Emmerich Berlon Ltd, was set up in Ashford in 1966 and now trades throughout Europe.
Mr Green said more than 538,000 jobs in the South East are linked to trade with the EU and Emir Hand Tools was one example of how Britain was stronger in Europe.
He said: “This year people in the South East will be asked to make the choice of a generation: does Britain remain as part of Europe and keep all the economic and security benefits that includes or do we risk going it alone? I am clear we are stronger, safer and better off in Europe.
“Our membership of the EU helps creates thousands of jobs, enables our businesses to trade freely in one of the world’s largest marketplaces, and allows us to deport foreign criminals – and bring people suspected of crimes here who have fled to Europe back to face justice.”
