Cricket club has pitch with a view

One of Kent’s most pic­turesque cricket clubs near Ash­ford is look­ing for new play­ers ahead of the com­ing sea­son.

Wye Cricket Club, in Cherry Gar­den Lane at the foot of the Kent Downs over­look­ing the his­toric Wye Crown, is a friendly club with three adult week­end sides and a ju­nior sec­tion.

The Satur­day first XI play in the Kent Re­gional League 1A East and the se­cond team play friendlies.

The Sun­day XI won the Kent Vil­lage League Divi­sion 3 ti­tle last year and will take their place in divi­sion 2 in 2016.

Qual­i­fied coaches run ju­nior coach­ing for year 2 to year 8 chil­dren on Sun­day morn­ings from May to July.

Club sec­re­tary Richard El­gar said: “Wye CC would like to hear from you if you are in­ter­ested in join­ing our club. We wel­come all ages and all abil­i­ties, whether you are a begin­ner or a for­mer player look­ing to get back into cricket we can of­fer you a chance to play in league cricket or just to have some fun in a friendly.”

The club has a pav­il­ion with a bar.

Win­ter nets start on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 29 at 8.30pm at Nor­ton Knatch­bull School, Ash­ford.
