Man charged over mo­tor­way col­li­sion

A 35-year-old man has been charged over a crash al­legedly caused by a driver trav­el­ling the wrong way on the M20.

Krzysztof Stopko, of As­cen­sion Close in Hamp­shire, was charged on Tues­day with caus­ing se­ri­ous in­jury by dan­ger­ous driv­ing.

A woman was taken to hos­pi­tal with se­vere in­juries af­ter the smash be­tween Junc­tions 11 and 10 on April 7.

Three am­bu­lances were sent to the scene, as well as the air am­bu­lance, po­lice and the fire ser­vice and the mo­tor­way was closed in both di­rec­tions.

Of­fi­cers were called to re­ports of a car trav­el­ling the wrong way on the Lon­don-bound car­riage­way. It col­lided with an­other car, caus­ing se­ri­ous in­juries to a pas­sen­ger who had to be cut free.

Stopko will ap­pear be­fore mag­is­trates in Folke­stone on Mon­day, July 18.
