Village needs hotel, not a coffee shop
I note that Costa Coffee`s planning application does not include proposals for the upstairs hotel accommodation.
With a large crematorium locally, overnight accommodation is needed for mourners travelling long distances. There were also regular guests breaking their journeys from the EU to the West Country, as well as tourists walking the Pilgrims Way.
All these people regularly spent time and money in the local shops, so we don’t need Costa to pretend they can bring vibrancy to our village.
A pub with good accommodation is essential and all the talk about it not being supported by the local residents has more to do with the last two tenants not Elizabeth Mary Tweed, Charing
