‘no proper pLan’

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - One Long Job -

Critics of the lorry park being built at Stanford are angry contractors have been selected before a location has been confirmed.

Operation Stack has not been implemented for more than 10 months since the crisis last summer.

Matthew Webb, chairman of Stanford Parish Council, who is also part of the action group against the Stanford proposals, said this week: “We actually knew Balfour Beatty had provisionally been awarded the contract a few weeks ago.

“I believe the point here is that because they are incapable of planning anything technical themselves, if the Secretary of State eventually says they are going to progress the Stanford West site then they need the contractors to actually draw up the detailed plans which will be used as the basis for the statutory consultation.

“Ironically, whether it does go ahead or not a lot of public money will be spent just drawing up plans. This strikes me as quite odd given that Highways England and the Department for Transport keep telling us that they have already done lots of work proving this is the only thing that will save us from the doom of Operation Stack. Apparently the opposite is true. They don’t even have a proper plan.”
