Village ready to party for Queen’s 90th
The village of Smarden will be celebrating the Queen’s official 90th birthday in style next week, but needs help from residents to make it a truely unforgettable day.
St Michael’s and Zion Churches will host a service of thanksgiving and celebration of the Queen’s reign at St Michael’s at 11am on Sunday, June 12.
Major General Tim Cross CBE will be the guest speaker and the event will include a royal pageant, where past kings and queens who have influenced Smarden will be celebrated with a trumpet fanfare.
The service will be followed by a picnic lunch on the Minnis, with outdoor toys provided by the Good Neighbour Scheme.
In the afternoon in Zion, there will be a display of pictures, memorabilia, commemorative plates and mugs.
WI members will bake a ‘village-sized’ birthday cake to be shared during the afternoon.
