Food and farming open day
A unique opportunity for families to discover the story behind their food and the many ways farmers contribute to our everyday lives is on offer.
Open Farm Sunday on June 5 – organised by the farming charity LEAF ( Linking Environment And Farming) – is the food and farming industry’s open day.
This year’s Open Farm Sunday is the 11th and over the last decade more than 1.4 million people have visited one of the hundreds of farms that take part every year across the country.
Farmers across the country will welcome consumers to ‘Discover the World of Farming’ on their local farm by finding out more about farming and food production and enjoying activities such as farm walks and tractor and trailer rides.
There’s also the chance to find out more about sustainable farming, and the role farmers play in looking after our countryside by caring for woodlands, hedgerows, meadows, ponds and pathways.
Around 360 farms across the country are taking part in this year’s event.
Local venues participating include Biddenden Vineyards and Karoben Farm, a centre for adults with learning disabilities, in Smarden.
