A unique op­por­tu­nity for fam­i­lies to dis­cover the story be­hind their food and the many ways farm­ers con­trib­ute to our ev­ery­day lives is on of­fer.

Open Farm Sun­day on June 5 – or­gan­ised by the farm­ing char­ity LEAF ( Link­ing En­vi­ron­ment And Farm­ing) – is the food and farm­ing in­dus­try’s open day.

This year’s Open Farm Sun­day is the 11th and over the last decade more than 1.4 mil­lion peo­ple have vis­ited one of the hun­dreds of farms that take part ev­ery year across the coun­try.

Farm­ers across the coun­try will wel­come con­sumers to ‘Dis­cover the World of Farm­ing’ on their lo­cal farm by find­ing out more about farm­ing and food pro­duc­tion and en­joy­ing ac­tiv­i­ties such as farm walks and trac­tor and trailer rides.

There’s also the chance to find out more about sus­tain­able farm­ing, and the role farm­ers play in look­ing af­ter our coun­try­side by car­ing for wood­lands, hedgerows, mead­ows, ponds and path­ways.

Around 360 farms across the coun­try are tak­ing part in this year’s event.

Lo­cal venues par­tic­i­pat­ing in­clude Bid­den­den Vine­yards and Karoben Farm, a cen­tre for adults with learn­ing dis­abil­i­ties, in Smar­den.
