Eileen becomes Ellen for one-woman show

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - What’s On -

There is nothing like a Dame ... to portray a Dame.

And theatre audiences will get the chance to find out if that’s true when one of the country’s best known actresses, Dame Eileen Atkins, becomes renowned Victorian actress Dame Ellen Terry.

Dame Eileen will play Dame Ellen in the Barn Theatre at Smallhythe Place near Tenterden (where Dame Ellen lived for many years until her death in 1928) this Saturday evening.

The one-woman show sees Dame Eileen recreate some of Ellen Terry’s famous performances of Shakespeare’s heroines.

Dame Ellen’s lectures on the roles led Dame Eileen – a multiaward-winning stage and television actress – to create a play that showcased Terry’s immense talent and expert knowledge of Shakespeare’s women.

‘Ellen Terry with Eileen Atkins’ sees her perform a dozen parts – from Viola to Volumnia. The one-woman show has previously received rave reviews.
