Ashford Lions Club members have donated £150 to help with the construction of a village war memorial.

Villagers in Aldington, Bonnington and Hurst have been raising thousands of pounds towards their Civic War Memorial.

Last month, Ashford Lions Club president Philip Watson presented a cheque to memorial committee chairman David Hughes.

The memorial is built out of Kent ragstone, with seats to commemorate the regiments stationed in Aldington.

Money from the Lions club came from the auction of giant chocolate Easter eggs in pubs around Ashford.

The memorial will be unveiled on Saturday, July 2 at 11am. Contact David Hughes on 01233 720646 or email abhwarmem@
