Dave Turner won Ash­ford An­gling So­ci­ety’s lat­est match at Bax Farm Fish­ery in Sit­ting­bourne. The com­pe­ti­tion pro­duced the the big­gest weights of the sea­son so far, in­clud­ing carp and sil­vers. Turner won with 38lb 09oz, ahead of Trevor Hinck­ley (35lb 4oz) with Lou Stone third (30lb 10oz). The club re­turn to Sur­ren­den Match lake on June 19 for the an­nual Frank Smith Memo­rial Tro­phy event which is open to both se­nior and ju­nior mem­bers. The So­ci­ety’s Open Day proved a great suc­cess, at­tract­ing more than 70 an­glers and sev­eral oth­ers new to the sport. The an­gling demon­stra­tions proved pop­u­lar with fly fish­ing for carp be­com­ing in­creas­ingly fash­ion­able. Eleven ju­niors fished the whip com­pe­ti­tion with the win­ner Emma (7lb 9oz), her catch in­clud­ing a 4lb plus bar­bel ex­pertly landed on a whip and light tackle. Chloe (3lb 7oz) was sec­ond, with Jack third (1lb 14oz). Spon­sors An­gling Di­rect do­nated medals and a se­lec­tion of floats as prizes. Do­na­tions raised £126.29 for Pil­grims Hospice, with the com­mit­tee agree­ing to top-up the to­tal to £200.
