Dave Turner won Ashford Angling Society’s latest match at Bax Farm Fishery in Sittingbourne. The competition produced the the biggest weights of the season so far, including carp and silvers. Turner won with 38lb 09oz, ahead of Trevor Hinckley (35lb 4oz) with Lou Stone third (30lb 10oz). The club return to Surrenden Match lake on June 19 for the annual Frank Smith Memorial Trophy event which is open to both senior and junior members. The Society’s Open Day proved a great success, attracting more than 70 anglers and several others new to the sport. The angling demonstrations proved popular with fly fishing for carp becoming increasingly fashionable. Eleven juniors fished the whip competition with the winner Emma (7lb 9oz), her catch including a 4lb plus barbel expertly landed on a whip and light tackle. Chloe (3lb 7oz) was second, with Jack third (1lb 14oz). Sponsors Angling Direct donated medals and a selection of floats as prizes. Donations raised £126.29 for Pilgrims Hospice, with the committee agreeing to top-up the total to £200.
