Badly in­jured mo­tor­cy­clist is air­lifted to Lon­don hospi­tal

A mo­tor­cy­clist was flown to a Lon­don hospi­tal with se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter a crash in Char­ing on Satur­day morn­ing.

Emer­gency crews, in­clud­ing po­lice, the fire ser­vice and paramedics, were called to Pluck­ley Road at 10.45am af­ter the smash be­tween a mo­tor­bike and a blue Rover 25 car.

The biker, be­lieved to be in his 40s, suf­fered in­juries to his head, tho­rax, arm and leg and is in a “se­ri­ous con­di­tion” in hospi­tal.

The crash hap­pened at the junc­tion with The Street. Pluck­ley Road was shut at the junc­tion with Char­ing Heath Road for more than four hours be­fore re­open­ing at 3pm.

Fire crews were called to deal with a fuel spillage on the road and make the scene safe.

A SECAmb spokesman said: “We re­sponded with two cars and an am­bu­lance to a col­li­sion. The rider, a man in his 40s, was un­con­scious and was taken by the air am­bu­lance to St Ge­orge’s Hospi­tal, in Lon­don.”

Po­lice in­ves­ti­gat­ing the crash are now ap­peal­ing for any wit­nesses to come for­ward.
