100mph M20 ‘chase’ was a police training exercise
A dramatic high-speed chase witnessed by motorists on the M20 between Maidstone and Ashford was actually a police driver training exercise.
That was the innocent explanation for the 100mph plus pursuit along the motorway on Tuesday morning. The chase along the coastbound stretch of the M20 between Maidstone and Ashford reportedly saw officers leap out of the way of a speeding Skoda Octavia.
One driver who saw it said: “It was the most adrenaline-fuelled high-speed chase you will ever see. A dark blue Skoda Octavia was being chased by four police cars at least 100mph.
“The way it was all managed was excellent, it was like something out of a movie.
“At one point the car swerved on to the hard shoulder and officers had to run into the road to avoid it.”
The motorist said the pursued vehicle stopped just before the junction 9 turn-off for Ashford.
A police spokesman confirmed it was a training exercise.
