Family trip a big success
With the school holidays fast approaching, why not take a leaf out of Lyminge landlord Steve Dales’ book and take your kids fishing. At the prolific Chequertree Lakes near Smarden, Steve and his young daughter both caught personal bests and our sport has a new member. Well done to you both. Local sea match angler Martyn Reid was top rod at the Fountain Club’s latest beach match with 11.115kg. Saltwood’s John Wells was second with (4.095kg) and Julian Bausola (2.014kg) came third. Good weights for this time of year. The Folkestone and Shepway anglers are having bumper sport at the local Radnor Park pool. The latest match was won by P Foley with 56lbs 15oz, with R Roberts (35lbs 12oz) second and P Williams (24lbs 8oz) third. Over at Dungeness, Paul Mortlock was top rod with 10lb 9oz and John Smith second with 8lb 8oz. Third was Phil Tanner with 5lb 9oz – doggies, pout and dabs were in the catches. The Cinque Ports anglers were caught in the recent storms when fishing their evening match at Hythe. This can be dangerous as the carbon poles that are used are good lightning conductors! The winner for the third time was Laurie Webster with 2.32kg. Second for the third time was Colin Conroy with 2.08kg and third was Les Foster with 1.85kg. Local carp angler Mark Dyer had a superb 41lb mirror carp from the prolific Chilham Mill Lake. Kentish ‘forties’ are rare so well done! The Sunday club match at the Light Railway stretch of the canal was won by Ben Lambourne with bream for 5.75kg. Second was Graham Slingsby with 4.02kg and Brian Hooley was third with 3.85kg.
