Clayton hits gold to earn World Championship spot
Tenterden Swords member Jane Clayton won gold and silver medals at the National Age-Group Championships at Milton Keynes to earn a place in the World Veteran Championships in Germany later this year. She will be joined by club-mate and former Olympian Ralph Johnson. The threetime world vet epee champion also won his event and the pair now travel to Stralsund on the Baltic Coast in October. Johnson then teamed up with fellow club members John Hyde and Helen Easter, beating off a strong challenge from their rivals to win the team title at the Kent Epee and Sabre Championships at Sandwich. Johnson and Hyde were beaten in the semifinals of the individual event. Anyone aged eight or over and interested in taking up the sport is welcome to visit the club on Thursday evenings. They meet at St Michaels Church Hall in Grange Road, starting at 8pm.
