Kentish Express Ashford & District
A brilliant tribute to popular postie Danny
A day of summer fun was held to raise funds in the memory of a popular Ashford postman.
Danny Hall died in a car crash last July and his family have set up the Danny Hall Foundation to ensure his name lives on.
The 25-year-old was a keen sportsman and at one point had ambitions to become a children’s sports coach, so the foundation awards grants to help youngsters in need.
Danny died with his friend Josh Robinson, 22, in a car crash in Austria.
To mark the one year anniversary since his death, a balloon release was held in Danny’s honour on the Arthur Baker Field at Charing Sports and Social Club, where the fun day was held on Saturday.
Danny’s sister Kirsty Theobald said: “It was a lovely day and we had such amazing support from the community. The sun was shining and there were lots of smiling happy children enjoying themselves.”
His dad Brian had one word for the occasion “brilliant” and wanted to say a special thanks to Charing Scouts who had worked hard to make the day possible.
Attractions included a teddy bear stall, from which all profits were donated to the Padua children’s ward at William Harvey Hospital; a bouncy castle; raffle; children’s tombola; lucky dip and hooka-duck.
A craft table was run by Vicki-Lou Bourner for children to get creative, while little girls were particularly interested in meeting the real-life princesses and prince charming, from Practically Perfect Princess Parties.
Danny’s family were delighted to have raised £1,200 from the fun day and thanked all the people and organisations who made it possible by helping on the day, or donating raffle prizes.
Individuals or groups can apply for grants from the Danny Hall Foundation, whether money is needed for a new pair of football boots, or for bigger projects benefiting children in need. Applications must be made before August 31.
