Stay safe on roads thanks to Moreline

-

Moreline the Wizhog, Ashford Borough Council’s (ABC) new road safety mascot, helped children understand the importance of taking care on the road at a community day.

Road safety has been identified as one of the priorities for the Ashford Community Safety Partnership, so to get the message across Moreline visited the event.

Moreline, which is a play on words for Merlin the Wizard, was in County Square on September 2 and 3 to spread the word about road safety with his slogan: “Park safely, drive safely and watch out for pedestrians”.

Children enjoyed reading the special story book about Moreline solving a problem of cars parked outside schools, as well as making good use of the free activity and colouring books on offer.

Moreline will be visiting local schools in the coming weeks to offer advice on road safety. The council has also provided warning parking signs to reinforce stopping restrictions and remind drivers not to park in locations which cause issues on schools premises. This enables them to trial the effectiveness of the signs before purchasing their own.

Cllr Brad Bradford, ABC’s portfolio holder for health, parking and community safety said: “We hope that by hosting engaging community days we shall help children to understand how to stay safe around roads and cars, as well as to encourage parents to think seriously about their driving habits.”
