Ashford Barbarians

-

Ashford Barbarians lost 36-10 to Canterbury 5ths in their opening Dragon Fire 4 East game. Prop Ben Gauntlett scored their only try, with captain and fly-half Jason Potter adding a conversion and penalty. Early Barbarians pressure produced an escalating penalty count for the home side as Ashford pressed deep into the Canterbury 22, with Gauntless denied early on after being adjudged to have knocked-on. Canterbury went in front after a grubber kick wasn’t dealt with, allowing the home centre to scoop up and go over. Baa Baas bounced back winning quick ball, with Gauntlett the key, spinning twice out of a tackle to crash over. Potter added the extras. Canterbury extended their lead before Potter kept his side in touch, kicking a penalty. Injuries then took their toll on the Baa Baas. They conceded four more tries, despite huge tackling from centres Dave Ward and Mickey Price.
