Queaney makes debut

Orla Queaney made her marathon debut in Amsterdam on Sunday as Ashford & District Road Running Club members took part in events at home and abroad.

Queaney finished in just short of five hours (4:56.23), while club-mate Anthony Brown came home in 3:34.23

Rhian Shrimplin ran in the half-marathon in the Dutch capital, clocking 1.50.43.

Closer to home, Richard Holden produced a strong finish to finish eighth in the first Maidstone Marathon to be staged for 23 years.

He covered the two-lap hilly course around the villages of Boughton Monchelsea, Loose and East Farleigh in a time of 3:35.18

Glen Holiday (1:49,46) was first home for the club in the half-marathon, followed home by Paul Brasington (1:51.49).

John Wells finished sec- ond overall in the Chilham Castle 10k, behind winner Victoria Kenny. He was the first male home in 45.33.

Scott Lynch was second in the 5k and first male vet 40 man home in 21.26.

Paul Moses finished 10th in the Sprint Duathlon – including a 5k run, 27k bike course and a 2.5k run – in a time of 1:31.39.

Robin Butler ran in the Way to Battle – one of many events to celebrate the 950th anniversar­y of the Battle of Hastings.

Starting at Pevensey Castle, Butler covered the 17mile course in 2:15.46 to finish 31st out of a field of more than 800.

Lucy Cresser completed the windy and hilly Brighton-and-Hove 10-mile race in 1:37.10.
