Ashford historian Steve Salter, pictured, said the mosaic was removed in 2010, when the old library was demolished.
It had to be cut in two to remove it from the old library foyer, where it was located, and the two halves have been ‘stored’ at the rear of the Ashford Gateway building ever since.
Mr Salter said: “In some ways it was destroyed when they cut it in two and obviously it’s been standing in the car park in all weathers for seven years now, exposed to the elements.
“It would involve a lot of work and effort to move it somewhere else, which is a shame because it is a piece of Ashford history.
“It has been offered to various people over the years but nothing has ever come of that.”
