Musician shines in competition
An Ashford School sixth form pupil has been awarded the prestigious Paul Neville Shield after competing in the Marlowe Young Musician of the Year competition.
James Short, pi c t ured, who has already won a s ought- af t e r organ scholarship to Oxford University, was also named runner-up at the competition at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury last week.
James and fellow pupil Jervis Wei both performed movements from Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto.
John Hall, the school’s director of music, said: “Our two finalists gave highly impressive performances. This is a major competition and gives students a wonderful opportunity to play with a professional orchestra.”
