Woman cau­tioned in su­per­mar­ket row

A woman ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of as­sault­ing a pen­sioner in­side a su­per­mar­ket has been given a cau­tion.

Po­lice of­fi­cers in­ves­ti­gated the al­leged as­sault on a man in his 80s at the Asda su­per­mar­ket in Kim­ber­ley Way, Ash­ford, which took place at around 6.30pm on Tues­day, Jan­uary 31, but de­tails have only re­cently emerged.

CCTV from the store was re­viewed.

Last Satur­day a 34-year-old woman from Ash­ford was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of as­sault but she has since been re­leased with­out charge, but cau­tioned. The vic­tim, who asked not to be named, said the in­ci­dent oc­curred fol­low­ing a dis­pute with a fam­ily also shop­ping in the store.

He said: “All I felt was this big shove. I banged my head on the shelf.”

The man went to hos­pi­tal for a check-up the next day af­ter wak­ing up with a bad headache.

He said: “The staff from Asda were ab­so­lutely fan­tas­tic.

“I would love to thank one cus­tomer, a tall man, who helped me.”
